3MARS: European multimodal transport planning

How can Europe’s long-distance transport networks offer better connected and more sustainable journeys? The 3MARS project studies the interactions between travel behaviour, transport networks, markets and policy across air and rail systems.

My contribution focuses on building and analysing a European multimodal transport network. I integrate OpenStreetMap and timetable sources, including GTFS and NeTEx, into reproducible Python workflows to compare intercity bus and rail connectivity and schedule-based accessibility.

Indiana Transportation Equity Atlas

I contributed to the development of the Indiana Transportation Equity Atlas, a mapping and screening tool created at Purdue University in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Transportation through the Joint Transportation Research Program.

The atlas brings together measures of accessibility, socioeconomic disadvantage and environmental exposure to help practitioners examine disparities across Indiana. Its interactive maps and indicator comparisons support the assessment of transport equity and help inform investment priorities.

Framework for forecasting trips from smartphone GPS data, linking data collection, processing, trip generation and trip distribution

Forecasting shifts in Hoosiers’ travel demand and behaviour

How might changes in travel behaviour, technology and economic activity reshape transport demand across Indiana? This INDOT-sponsored project combined location-based data analysis with long-range scenario planning to examine future passenger and freight movements and inform infrastructure investment and operations.

I contributed large-scale mobility-data analysis and travel-demand forecasting, using smartphone GPS data to derive trip patterns and origin–destination flows. The project also examined the effects of e-commerce and future industry shifts, bringing together complementary methods to support statewide and regional planning.

A-RESCUE 3.0 (EvacSIM): Hurricane evacuation simulation

A-RESCUE 3.0 is an agent-based road traffic simulator developed for urban hurricane evacuation research. It forms part of the NSF-funded project Hazards SEES: Bridging information, uncertainty, and decision-making in hurricanes using an interdisciplinary perspective, which examines how information and uncertainty shape evacuation decisions and traffic conditions.

I contributed to the development and performance improvement of this Java-based research simulator, including changes to component data structures and lane-level bounds on speed and vehicle counts. My related research used evacuation simulation to investigate how different information and evacuation-notice scenarios influence congestion and the criticality of road links.

Kumbh Mela Experiment

This project investigated pedestrian movement in large crowds at the 2016 Kumbh Mela in Ujjain, India. I studied pedestrian traffic flow theory and the social force method, then developed a MATLAB applet to count pedestrians and record movement trajectories from camera footage.
